Alkarma Pedestrian Crossover
A pedestrian bridge spanning a multi-lane highway in Alkarma, providing safe crossing for residents. The structure combines structural efficiency with an elegant form that complements the urban context. Integrated lighting and landscaping create a welcoming passage day and night.
Creating a safe pedestrian crossing over a busy highway without disrupting traffic during construction. The bridge needed to be accessible to all users including those with mobility needs.
A prefabricated steel structure installed with minimal traffic disruption. Ramps and integrated lighting ensure accessibility and safety, while the clean structural form adds a civic landmark to the area.
Currently under construction in Al Karma, Iraq, this expansive pedestrian crossover spans a total of 106 meters from edge to edge. The structure safely bridges a major thoroughfare, providing clear passage over twin 15-meter main traffic arteries and adjacent 11-meter sub-roads. The architectural design elevates standard civic infrastructure by integrating solid stonework and refined plastering with intricate, illuminated CNC aluminum screens. These geometric screens not only provide shading and safety for pedestrians but also transform the crossover into a glowing civic landmark at night, establishing a modern yet culturally resonant aesthetic for the city's urban landscape.
